Speaker Mike Johnson

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 15, 2026) — Mike Johnson, the 56th Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, has announced his participation in America Reads the Bible, a weeklong national Scripture reading event commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States.

Johnson will take part in the Opening Celebration on April 18, 7 pm EST at National Community Church in Washington, D.C., and then he will join nearly 500 leaders—including pastors, artists, public servants, and families—who will read Scripture from Genesis to Revelation during approximately 84 hours at the Museum of the Bible from April 19–25.

The public is invited to attend in person or watch via livestream on Great American Pure Flix.

During the event, Johnson will read from Genesis 24, tracing the generational blessing from Abraham to Isaac and his marriage to Rebekah.

I’m honored to stand alongside so many faithful Americans this weekend as we acknowledge together the truths of Scripture and the deeply embedded moral and religious heritage of our nation,” said Speaker Johnson. “As we prepare to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our exceptional county, there has never been a better time for this important initiative.”

Bunni Pounds, founder and president of Christians Engaged and visionary behind the initiative, said the event draws inspiration from the biblical account of Ezra, whose public reading of Scripture sparked national renewal.

I am grateful for the testimony of Speaker Johnson as we pause during our nation’s 250th anniversary to remind people of the power of God’s Word,” Pounds said. “Our prayer is that as Scripture is read, it will strengthen faith, renew hope, and remind us of the truths that have shaped our nation.”

Organized around the theme “One Week. One Nation. One Book.,” America Reads the Bible is designed as a national moment of reflection during a historic milestone year. The week begins with an Opening Celebration on April 18 at 7 p.m. EST at National Community Church/Capital Turnaround, followed by daily readings from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Museum of the Bible.

Great American Pure Flix will livestream the event, encouraging families, churches, schools, and communities nationwide to participate.
